The Estate Fiesolana (“Summer in Fiesole”) is one of the most pleasant events of the hot season: a festival offering shows in the breathtaking setting of the Roman amphitheatre on the hill of Fiesole.
Into its 65th edition, the festival contains a month of performance, from June 20th to July 27th.
The jazz is and remains the heart of the Festival with Vivere Jazz with a program that sees on the stage a lots of high level international artists: as ex Cultural Ambassador of Brazil, Gilberto Gil, national exclusive on July 23rd; the Jazz bassist Dave Holand (July 17th) and Richard Galliano with his philharmonic. (July 10th).
But beyond the Jazz, the other main theme of Festival is classical music. Classical music comes out of the churches and into several Fiesolan sites to present masterpieces such as the ‘Requiem’, the internationally successful piece by Brahams (July 14th).
The ‘Estate Fiesolana’ is the oldest open air festival in Italy with ninety two years of history that span from 1911 (the year in which the first performance took place at the Roman Theatre of Fiesole) – until the present day. Almost a century of theatre, dance, music and cinema establishes this incredible place as a very important ‘piece’ in the history of the Italian performing arts scene.
