The historical Florentine Football is a game born many years ago. An ancient tradition said that “Football” was in fact born by the banks of Arno.
Only after centuries, it has moved by the banks of the Thames, turning the rules and changing its name to “Football“, which has acquired the reputation that we recognized today
The Historical Florentine Football is a game that still retains the old rules. It has the duration of fifty minutes and it is played on a rectangular field and covered with a kind sand. On this field it is played the game where two teams are composed by twenty-seven players each side. The winner is the one who throw the ball more times in the network placed at the bottom of the enemy camp.
June is the month of the Historical Florentine Football. In a week it will be decided the fate of the four districts. The matches will start on June16th, with the “Whites against Green”, and June 17th, “Blue against Red”, while the final is traditionally played on June 24th, to St. John, patron of Florence.
The matches will be played in Piazza Santa Croce where three charity appointments will also take place.
