New Year’s Eve in Florence

This year Florence offers a huge choice of amusements in order to spend the last year’s night in the spirit of fun and pleasures that this charming city, rich of artistic treasures and history, presents to its visitors.

4 different squares propose 4  different concerts, for all ages public and different musical preferences:

starting from 10.00 p.m.  Piazza Stazione – Railway Station Square

Lucio Dalla, Irene Grandi and the Negrita will alternate themselves on the stage (free entrance)

starting from 11.00 p.m. Piazza Signoria

Great New Year’s Concert – The Ucrain Philarminic Orchestra conducted by  Giuseppe Lanzetta proposes walzer, polcke and marches by Strauss, together with  Offenbach, Rossini and Verdi’s symphonies (free entrance)

Starting from 11.00 p.m. Piazza SS. Annunziata

Riccardo Marasco in concert: the most famous singer of traditional tuscan music  with his musicians will perform to celebrate the New Year and to honour the “Florentine identity”!
Two hours with tradition, music and dancing. (Free entrance)

Starting from 10.00 p.m. Piazza del Duomo

The Banda Improvvisa in concert: great fun with this band created with the aim of renewing the band repertoire by the mixture of different musical forms, that has definitely transformed the “traditional band” in a lively musical lab that involves musicians of all ages from Arezzo and Florence areas. It’s really difficult to explain the kind of the original compositions: they are pieces characterized by a big sound power and supported by a strong series of percussions in which we can feel minimalism, progressives, jazz and world music echos. The Banda Improvvisa will centainly give strong emotions! (free entrance)

We also report here some concerts that require an admission fee:

St. Mark’s English Church – New Year’s Eve Open Gala: starting from 08.30 p.m.; entrance fee: 96.00€  (buffet dinner and beverages included)

A set of wonderful lyrical melodies and the viennese sense of humor’ll be performed by six singers of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino wearing traditional clothes, accompanied by a piano, in the cozy contest of English Church in Florence. A rich buffet with salmon and champagne, available during break, will allow you to stay untill midnight for the celebration.

Teatro Auditorium al Duomo – New Year’s Concert Golden Opera: starting at 7.30 p.m. ntrance fee: 100,00 €

Golden Opera is a gala night that take place for the first time in Florence and that unifies three acts of the most famous Operas of Italian repertory (Rigoletto, La Traviata, La Bohème) with scenes and traditional clothes. The interpreters, orchestra and choir are professional performers of the most important italian theaters, with years of experience in the world of Opera. The cozy contest of Auditorium Al Duomo, the direction and the magnificent theater clothes, will make unforgettable your greeting to 2010!

For those who love  theater there are a lot of shows during December 31st night, some on them include in entrance ticket a midnight drink, or a buffet-dinner or a dancing night:

Teatro Le Laudi – Il gatto in cantina by Nando Vitali (italian language), starting at: 9.30 p.m.;  entrance fee: 40,00€ -  midnight drink included;

Teatro Nuovo – Quando la moglie è in vacanza by A. Cinti – Compagnia Il Grillo (italian language), starting at: 9.00 p.m. entrance fee: 80,00€ – midnight drink and theatre improvisation show included;

Teatro Everest – Prima o poi casco with Katia Beni (italian language), starting at: 10.00 p.m.entrance fee: 40,00€ – dancing night included

Teatro Reims – La mi’ moglie l’ha du’ mariti, ovvero letto matrimoniale a 3 piazze – Compagnia Firenze Ridan-Ciana (italian and florentine language), starting at: 9.30 p.m.;  entrance fee: 45,00€ – midnight drink; buffet-dinner and cabaret show included

For young people a lot of clubs and pubs are preparing something really special  for New Year’s Eve and won’t be less special the parties that will take place in some historical buildings and villas,  a complete programm is available, we’d like to suggest you:
