Four hundred years since murder Henry IV, the Superintendent of the Florence Museum of the Medicee Chapels, together with the Musée National du Chateau de Pau intends to celebrate with a major exhibition “Paris is worth a Mass! The Medici tribute to Henry IV, King of France.
The exhibition’s fulcrum is made up of 19 monochrome paintings that Cosimo II de ‘Medici commissioned to the academic florentine painters to celebrate the funeral of Henri IV the September 16, 1610 in the Basilica of San Lorenzo. There will be also books, engravings and drawings for the celebration, the Medici family tree, medals related to the main characters’ episode, the marriage documents, precious portraits of the King and Queen in painting and sculpture and a wonderful sketch of Pieter Paul Rubens, with the landing of Maria de Medici in Marseilles performed as a model for the cycle for the Luxembourg Palace, which the queen commissioned to the painter between 1622 and 1624.
